1. What’s your name?

Hello, my birth name is "Anucha," which means "younger brother" in Thai.

Currently, I have changed my name to "Chotiphat," which means "prosperous development" in Thai.

My nickname is simply "Cha."

2. Where are you from, and where do you live now?

I was born in Thailand, at a hospital in the capital city, Bangkok. However, I grew up in another province, Chiang Mai, which is located in northern Thailand. Currently, I have returned to live and work in Bangkok.

3. Have you always been this creative, even as a child?

I can confidently say that Japanese manga, animated movies, anime, Super Sentai series, and toys were my best friends during my childhood.

Observing, distinguishing colors, learning how to dress like characters, and understanding right from wrong—I learned all of these from those influences.

What shaped me into who I am today was molded by those childhood experiences.

4. How did "Low Cost Cosplay" come to life?

Let me take you back to my childhood during my primary school years. My family’s financial situation back then wasn’t sufficient to buy toys, so I started making my own toys.

For example, during that time, Tamiya racing cars were incredibly popular. I really wanted to play with one, but we couldn’t afford it. Instead, I folded paper from my homework notebooks into Tamiya-like cars, colored and decorated them with crayons, and then raced them with my friends by blowing them across the floor at school. These are fond memories for me.

As I grew older, I discovered cosplay. I was amazed and fascinated by the people who created cosplay costumes. They were incredibly talented at crafting costumes, applying makeup, and transforming themselves into characters from anime, cartoons, or movies. I always kept the thought and dream in my heart that if I ever had the chance or the ability, I’d love to try cosplaying too.

One day, when I was 24 years old (I’m 35 now), I got the opportunity to work as a caregiver for the elderly at a nursing home in Bangkok. Imagine working with Alzheimer’s patients who forget their memories every 15 seconds. This means they lose their sense of identity every 15 seconds. They could be anyone or anything they wanted to be, and as their caregiver, I had to keep up with their imagination.

Creativity played a huge role in caring for these elderly individuals. The atmosphere at the nursing home was often quiet and somber, and I didn’t want that sadness to affect me. I wanted to bring some fun and positivity into the environment.

So, I started using clothes and towels meant for the elderly to create costumes. I’d dress up as different professions, like a police officer, a soldier, or a doctor, and act like those characters. I would talk to the elderly as if I were really in that profession, listening to their concerns and giving them joy before their 15-second memory reset.

I continued doing this throughout my time at the nursing home, and it made me realize that this was what I wanted to do—cosplaying as different characters. I also realized that I didn’t need fancy costumes or expensive materials to have fun dressing up. Everyday household items could be used, just like how I used paper to make Tamiya cars as a child.

With this in mind, I tied a red towel around my neck to make a red cape, wore black underwear, set up my old Nokia phone with its low-resolution camera, and counted down, “5, 4, 3, 2, 1.” I flexed my abs, struck a pose, and snapped a photo. That’s right—I was cosplaying as King Leonidas, the Spartan general from the movie 300.

I posted that photo on Facebook, and my friends started commenting and engaging with it. One comment stood out: “Wow, this is low-cost cosplay!” That keyword gave me the idea and concept for creating my page, which I named Lowcostcosplay on Facebook, my first platform. Later, I expanded to Instagram and Twitter (now X).

I no longer work at the nursing home because I’ve dedicated myself fully to managing the Lowcostcosplay page.

5. Did you ever think you’d become famous for cosplaying?

To be honest, I never thought this would make me famous. In the early days, very few people were interested in what I was doing. It was just a small group of followers. On top of that, there were some people who criticized or insulted me, saying that what I was doing was a waste of time, meaningless, and had no value.

I even asked myself why I was doing this. But I found a simple answer: I kept doing it because I genuinely liked and enjoyed it. That’s all there is to it. If there ever comes a day when I no longer like it or feel okay with it, I’ll simply stop. But up until now, I’m still doing it. Haha!

6. What’s a random fun fact about you that no one knows

Believe it or not, creating Lowcostcosplay has become a form of daily therapy for me. Every day, my mind is filled with countless thoughts, and I feel the need to release them. I express both the good and the bad through Lowcostcosplay, allowing me to lighten the weight in my mind, let go, and release those emotions each day.

It’s like a daily routine that I must follow. Lowcostcosplay is a tool that helps give my life value and helps me find meaning in living.

7. What was the very first character you cosplayed?

The first character I cosplayed as was Leonidas, the main Spartan warrior commander from the movie 300.

8. Do you still remember the weirdest object you’ve ever used for a cosplay?

I still remember it clearly. It was also the first prop that sparked my imagination for many cosplay creations to follow. It was an iron. Yes, I used an iron to cosplay as the bow of the Titanic.

9. Did you ever think, “This is so ridiculous, but I’m doing it anyway”?

I think about it every day, haha, how utterly ridiculous it all seems. But there was one time when a fan sent me a message on my page:

"I have depression and have thought about taking my own life many times. One night, I was planning to end it all, but as I was scrolling through my Facebook feed, I saw one of your cosplay posts. I burst out laughing, and in that moment, my thoughts of suicide completely vanished. Thank you for giving me one more day to live."

When I read that message, it made me realize something important: maybe nothing is truly pointless. It's just about whether what we do can be of value to someone. From that moment on, I decided to keep doing what I do.

10. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
